No open source iPhone apps?

One of the interesting things I found when looking for an iPhone IM app was that Adium said that they cannot release an iPhone version of Adium because they are open source. LibPurple and other significant portions of their code work on the Gnu Public License. They says that the Apple NDA specifically stop them from release the source code for an iPhoneAdium and as a result they will be faced with the impossible choice of breaking the NDA or breaking the GPL.

Does this mean that no open source apps can be released on the iPhone?
